Summary

DescriptionStates of South Asia by language.png	English: A depiction of the main language (official language or lingua franca) of each South Asian nation's states/provinces. The Maldives is excluded. Different language families are in different colors: Indo-Aryan languages are green, Iranic languages are dark-green, Dravidian languages are purple, Sino-Tibetan languages are red, and Turkic languages are orange. Specific state sources: Disputed regions (such as Kashmir) are shown on the basis of how they are administered by India, Pakistan, and/or China. Afghanistan has 34 provinces, so in this image, the UN's definition of the 7 regions of Afghanistan was used: File:UN_Regions_of_Afghanistan.png. For the languages in each region, the following map was used: File:Ethnolinguistic_Groups_Afghanistan_EN.svg. Aksai Chin is administered mostly as part of Xinjiang (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotan_County), which mainly speaks Uyghur. Arunachal Pradesh's official language is English, but Hindi is more common: [1], [2], [3]
