Summary

Description Leontocephaline of the Mithraic mysteries. This line drawing is of the figure found at the mithraeum of C. Valerius Heracles and sons (dedicated 190 AD) at Ostia Antica, Italy. Vermaseren catalogue number: CIMRM 312. The identity of the leontocephaline is not certain, but it is almost certainly neoplatonic, and is commonly assumed to be in some way related to Aion.
