|closed=Use {{tl|closed access}} to indicate that a publication is not available under [[Open access (publishing)|open access]]. Use {{tl|open access}} to indicate that a publication is available under open access.

Most closed-access publications are behind a [[paywall]] and require a personal or institutional subscription to access their full text. Others, including several studies, require purchase.
Still, they can often be read an abstract or summary of a closed-access publication for free, even without a subscription.
|limited=Use {{tl|limited access}} to indicate manually that a publication is available to be read under certain conditions – a cap on daily views, a restriction to certain day or night times, a free trial, a required account, or providing the contents only to certain IP ranges/locales on behalf of the provider of the source, etc.  For citations input with citation templates such as {{tl|cite journal}}, use [[Help:Citation_Style_1#Registration_or_subscription_required|the relevant parameters]] (such as {{para|url-access|limited}}) to indicate the access level. For publications that are available to read for free, use {{tl|free access}}.
