When the Barclay brothers purchased the [[Telegraph Media Group|Telegraph Group]] for around £665&nbsp;million in late June 2004, Sir [[David and Frederick Barclay|David Barclay]] suggested that ''The Daily Telegraph'' might no longer be the "house newspaper" of the [[Conservative Party (UK)|Conservatives]] in the future. In an interview with ''[[The Guardian]]'', he said: "Where the government are right we shall support them".
