One of these is ''Basic Christianity'',{{sfn|Stott|1958}} a book which seeks to explain the message of Christianity, and convince its readers of its truth and importance. ''The Preacher's Portrait: Some New Testament Word Studies'', published in 1961,{{sfn|Stott|1961}} it was an important reference for clergy. Upon his formal retirement from public engagements, he continued to engage in regular writing until his death. In 2008, he produced ''The Anglican Evangelical Doctrine of Infant Baptism'' with [[J.
