{{Main|Americana (music)|Bluegrass music}}Bluegrass is a genre that contain songs about going through hard times, country loving, and telling stories. It's history can be traced back to the 1600s. The genre has developed in the [[Northern Kentucky]] and [[Cincinnati]] area. Other artists include [[New South (band)]], [[Doc Watson]], [[Osborne Brothers]], and many others.

In an effort to combat the over-reliance of mainstream country music on pop-infused artists, the sister genre of [[Americana (music)|Americana]] began to gain popularity and increase in prominence, receiving eight [[Grammy]] categories of its own in 2009.
