Malachite

==Structure==
Malachite crystallizes in the [[Monoclinic crystal system|monoclinic system]]. The structure consists of chains of alternating Cu<sup>2+</sup> [[Ion|ions]] and OH<sup>−</sup> ions, with a net positive charge, woven between isolated triangular CO<sub>3</sub><sup>2−</sup> ions. Thus each copper ion is conjugated to two [[Hydroxy group|hydroxyl]] ions and two [[carbonate]] ions; each [[Hydroxy group|hydroxyl]] ion is conjugated with two copper [[Ion|ions]]; and each carbonate ion is conjugated with six copper ions.<ref>{{cite book |last1=Klein |first1=Cornelis |last2=Hurlbut |first2=Cornelius S.
