A few days after the attacks, on 17 November, a football friendly set to be played at [[Niedersachsenstadion|HDI-Arena]] in [[Hanover]] between Germany (who had just been present at the Stade de France during the Paris attacks) and the Netherlands was cancelled and thousands of football fans evacuated from the arena following a bomb threat.<ref name="abcau">{{Cite news|title=Bomb threat leads to cancellation of Germany-Netherlands 'freedom' football friendly|url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-18/germany-netherlands-freedom-match-cancelled-over-bomb-threat/6950074|work=ABC News|date=17 November 2015|access-date=25 May 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170222093408/http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-18/germany-netherlands-freedom-match-cancelled-over-bomb-threat/6950074|archive-date=22 February 2017|url-status=live}}</ref> The match, having been hailed as a "symbol of freedom" after the Paris attacks, was set to be attended in a show of solidarity with France by German chancellor [[Angela Merkel]], vice-chancellor [[Sigmar Gabriel]], several other German government ministers, as well as Dutch defence minister [[Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert]] and health and sport minister [[Edith Schippers]].<ref name="abcau"/>
