In September 2018, speaking at a conference in [[Malmö]], [[Sweden]], home to a large [[Immigration to Sweden|immigrant population]], the Dalai Lama said "I think Europe belongs to the Europeans," but also that Europe was "morally responsible" for helping "a refugee really facing danger against their life". Speaking to German reporters in 2016, the Dalai Lama said there are "too many" refugees in Europe, adding that "Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country."
