In 2004, Moon was honored as the [[Messiah]] at an event in the [[Dirksen Senate Office Building]], [[Washington, D.C.]]   This attracted much public attention and was criticized by ''[[The New York Times]]'' and ''[[The Washington Post]]'' as a possible violation of the principle of [[separation of church and state]] in the United States. Several months after his death, an award named after him and his wife (the [[Sunhak Peace Prize]]) was proposed, inheriting his will to "recognize and empower innovations in human development, conflict resolution and ecological conservation."
