* [[July 12]] – [[Hezbollah]] crosses the border of [[Lebanon]] and captures two Israeli soldiers. Israel [[2006 Lebanon War|responds]] by sending troops across the border and bombing Hezbollah strongholds, while Hezbollah fires missiles on towns in northern Israel, approximately 6 each day. At the end of the war 1,200 Lebanese civilians, 500 Hezbollah fighters, 44 Israeli civilians and 121 Israeli soldiers die. A ceasefire is signed on [[August 14]], after which Israeli troops withdrew from Lebanon.
