Byrne started ''Raw Story'' as a counterpoint to the right-leaning [[Drudge Report]] after he graduated from [[Oberlin College]] in 2003. Levinthal was deputy editor at [[Business Insider|Insider]], and previously served at [[OpenSecrets]], [[Politico]] and [[The Dallas Morning News]].
